1939 Ford Street Rod
Custom Carson-Style Top
This beautiful all steel 1939 Ford Street Rod was sent to R. A. Snively Designs for a one-off, custom-fabricated, removable Carson-style hardtop. The customer wanted it to look like a convertible from the exterior but have a true hardtop feel inside complete with a finished headliner.

The modern street rod deserves a modern version of the Carson style top. This one has minimal french seams for a very clean, almost European flair. The rear glass has been created with the same smooth finished edge as the rest of the top. No binding or unnecessary visible sundries. The exterior material is a German pebble grain vinyl coated convertible top material over a fiberglass reinforced padded structure.
On the inside, the top has been finished in a BMW textured vinyl material that compliments the rest of the car's upholstery. As can be seen in the picture above, the rear window received the same clean finished edge as on the outside. Smooth details have become the trademark of Bob Snively's design and work.
The car's original build included a folding convertible top that proved  unsuitable for the owner's needs. Bob Snively used the front header bow and side rails of the folding frame to form the perimeter of the hardtop. A custom wooden and fiberglass rear belt line rail was custom made to fit the contour of the body along with metal fabrication of the top's bows. Additional structure was made for the attachment of a custom made headliner. Lots of details are required to get a great looking final product!
